My sister is having her second child in March and my niece (~3 yrs old) is not entirely on board with the baby thing. We're planning a shower and are thinking about having part of the focus be on Milly and her new role as the big sister to try and get her excited about it. Does anyone have any suggestions for fun gifts for the new big sis or techniques to get a toddler excited about a new sibling? Thanks!

Our friends have a three year old and just had a new baby. They had pretty much everything they needed so for the baby shower we bought the three year old a present that he could open. It was a set of books for him that he could read to the baby. He got to enjoy them before she was born and now he's excited to share them with her. He seemed to really like that idea.

Books are a great idea. Also, any kind of quiet activity book/toy that big sister can use with or beside mom as she feeds the baby. My son really loved to be read to or do little sticker book activities while I nursed his newborn sister. My sister also let him pick out a little outfit for Cleo when I was in labor with her, and he was so proud every time she wore it.

Thanks, these are great ideas! She does love stickers and is pretty clingy with her mom so something to occupy her during nursing is a really good idea. Thanks again!

Thanks for this thread! My daughter will be a big sister come May and I wanted to do something really special for her so she didn't feel left out.
