The East Coast's favorite reverend of the Churh of Craft is making a collection of shoulder bags. I've seen some prototypes after lots of love and use and they just keep looking better and better.> Scott on 04/17/07 #
Secret Garden
This lush carpet is made by Dutch team Meesters and Van der Park from old wool blankets. Today is a great day for a wool garden in my living room.> Scott on 04/15/07 #
FreeForm Crochet for All
Calling all non-conformists: There will be a freeform crochet demonstration and discusssion by Barbara Hillery Van Elsen, fiber artist, founder of the New York City Crochet Guild, at The Museum of Arts and Design in NYC on Thursday, April 12, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. The event is free with museum admission, but good news, Thursdays are pay-as-you-wish. Go and get loopy!> Abigail on 04/11/07 #
Space Saving Terrariums
Also notable along the lines of gardening space-savers or micro-gardening for tabletops, see the bubblicious terrariums of Paula Hayes.> Abigail on 04/05/07 #
Painting With Plants
By way of cataloging biocrafts, my attention has lately been drawn (by an article in ReadyMade #28) to the new vertical gardening movement, particularly the works of Patrick Blanc and Nelson Hyde Chick. Essentially vertical gardening involves arranging landscapes on upright surfaces like walls, and in this orientation the elements of visual composition derived from painting become important in determining arrangement and growth parameters of the various plants. Apart from purely artistic considerations, "living walls" have useful environmental and architectural features, as well. On a DIY scale, vertical garden kits are available from Elevated Landscape Technologies.> Sean on 04/05/07 #
Best. Table. Ever.
Many of you may have already seen this Yahoo! video showing the incredible action of D.B. Fletcher's capstan table, which transforms itself from a small circle, seating 6, to a large circle, seating 12, simply by rotating the edge through 30 degrees. According to the website, the design is patented, so the details of its construction should be publicly available through the USPTO. I really wanna know how it works.> Sean on 04/03/07 #
Craft Congress!
Well, I just got back from the first session of Craft Congress in Pittsburgh, a meeting of the 'leaders of the DIY community'. It was an amazing weekend, and we all agreed that we represented only a sliver of the leaders in the movement. Top of the agenda: "who are we, how do we work to benefit the DIY community at large, and how do we organize this thing?" If you want to read more, check out the Glitter Thread on the congress, and check out the Craft Congress Photo Pool on flickr!> sublimestitcher on 04/03/07 #
