Artistbook International
I don't know about you, but I won't be in Paris this fall. However if I were I would certainly spend some serious time at Artistbook International who are having a fair at the Center Pompidou Oct 24-26. With 60 publishers, rare book dealers and happenings it sounds like a bibliophile's dream.> Tsia on 10/04/09 #
OPENrestaurant
OPENrestaurant is a group of inspired Bay Area food professionals taking their skills into the realm of visual art. Up next, an event at SFMOMA designed around ideas presented in F.T. Marinetti's 1932 Futurist Cookbook.> helena on 10/02/09 #
Mono a Mono
Canadians are a mysterious people and the very avant and dark mono is no exception. I adore their clothing/wearable sculptures and their inspiration journal that they are sharing with us. To celebrate they are offering 20% off at checkout until 10/31. Your secret code is monoshop01.> Tsia on 09/29/09 #
If you have one million spiders
And lots of time, you too can make a spider silk tapestry. Amazing! If you are in NYC, you can go see it at the Natural History Museum.> Kirsten on 09/28/09 #
Bake-Off in Brooklyn!
October 10th is the City Reliquary's 1st Annual Havemeyer Sugar Sweets Festival! It will feature baked goods, baking presentations, music and performances. It is also a fund-raising event for the Reliquary, which is a really cool organization. They are looking for Civic Bakers to donate fresh baked yummies for the bake sale. If you'd like to contribute your own fresh baked treat, email Jeff at jtancil@yahoo.com. The event itself will be on Saturday, October 10th, noon to 6pm, in Williamsburg on Havemeyer between Grand and Metropolitan.> Anna on 09/23/09 #
Sweater to Rug Scale Freakout
I heart Aran sweaters. Never would knit one of course, because I can't even purl, so when I saw this super scale freakout, I was floored. Giant knitting needles? Weaving that looks like knitting? How? Never mind, I'm just glad it exists.> Kirsten on 08/27/09 #
Toys and crafts at Smithsonian
Work has been taking me to DC a lot lately. The only perk that I can think of, is that the client is the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum. So I've been getting to poke around the museum more than I normally would. Here are two photos I took this week of toys from Africa and a matchstick rendition of a Black Star Line ship made from matchsticks.> Brett on 08/27/09 #
Fashion is Political (Again)
The Museum at FIT keeps up it's tradition of awesome shows with two that are up now. Upstairs is Fashion & Politics which is a bad ass survey of Political fashion from the 1700's until now. It's Heroic. Downstairs is a show of Isabela Toldeo. I knew she is elegant, but it turns out she is subversive- with clothes that sincerely address sexuality and otherness with deep beauty. AND you get to see Michelle's dress!> Scott on 08/26/09 #
Felt Moby!
Tristin Lowe has created a life size industrial felt sperm whale that is on view at The Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia. Whales have a power that is amazingly expressed in the sculpture of wool over an inflated body.> Scott on 08/24/09 #
