DEPART-ment sale

DEPART-ment sale

Our beloved Chicago floating indie store of handmade goods,DEPART-ment, is open: April 25, 26 and 27 at AV-aerie, with the opening party on Friday, April 25th from 7-11pm. My favorite part: "All things handcrafted. No brand names. No foreign assembly. No questionable ethics."

Indiepublic's Shiney New Owner

Indiepublic's Shiney New Owner

If you were wondering how a site based in Ning could possibly be sold, or bought for that matter, you now have some one to ask. Scion sent out an email earlier today announcing Casie Metcalf as the proud new owner of one Indiepublic.com. You may know Casie from her other site, Vintage Image Madness, or from her shop on Etsy. Casie offers up cool old timey post card images and is no slouch when it comes to social networking online. No word on her plans for the site yet, but we'll be watching.

2 Legit

2 Legit

As crafting and the handmade movement gain momentum, there seems to be a lot more discussion about the difference (or lack thereof) between hobbyists, crafters, and artists. Certainly this was the case at Craft Con last weekend. Perhaps some of it stems from a desire to legitimize ourselves professionally and if it is, then today marks another step closer to that goal. This Wall Street Journal article in the career section outlines some tactics for starting and succeeding in your craft business. Who woulda thunk it?
