Sad toast and handspun yarn from My Paper Crane's booth, the art and craft of Heidi Kenney.

From Cut + Paste's booth

This picture does not do Chandi's stuff justice. Excellent t-shirts. You can buy her at Elsewares.

I really like Mary's shirts. I liked Mary too! Mary Ink

Brooklyn's Perch. Love the modernist ceramic birdhouse.

Glitterati Lady_Yuck red yuck

Erika from Through The Trees.

Overglazed ceramics and fused glass spider night light. Both from Art Star's booth.
Although the preview is not available we really dig Friend or Foe's gallery of stuffed toys with their "owners".

Renegade Craft Fair Report

By: Tsia

The Renegade Alternative Craft Fair in Brooklyn was hot in every sense of the word: it was 95 degrees and the fair was hopping. Put together twice a year in Chicago and Brooklyn, it represents many of the great new makers in the alt crafting scene. I love seeing people out there creating great stuff and trying to make a living with it. It is so inspirational.

It was at least 4 times bigger than I had anticipated, so there was so much I got to see and so much I missed. It was such a delight seeing makers in the flesh for the first time and finding great new stuff I didn't know about. Here is my photo rich, misguided tour. Sorry to the booths that I missed! Wish you were here with me!

From the Department of Craft's booth. This is a group of makers who all met on Glitter. They make jewelry, dolls, accessories, soaps... They make it all! And they get the award for the cutest pre-fair emails and site.

Although there are a lot of pics from Cut + Paste's booth I wanted to show the whole thing because the stuff she is repping is so beautiful and she has such great taste. Loved it. Should have bought it all.

NFelt. These are felted ball brooches. NFelt is made in Chicago and these are just exquisite. I think this felting is so elegant and magical.

I love Lekkner. Melissa makes such great stuff out of t-shirts. With a little more ingenuity, could we all be this cool? So great to actually meet her in person.

I adored all this psychadelic crystal inspired madness. Through The Trees.

Art Star from Philadelphia. These girls rocked my world. They were so nice to me! It's great that people see this site. They had beautiful stuff and they repped some great people. They have a retail space in Philly--I cant wait to visit!

Mellifluous Couture. Wow, this photo doesn't do justice to Erika's work. Her clothes are beautifully cut and draped, she uses beautiful fabric, and I was just so taken with her stuff as was everyone I was with. I stage whispered to editor Scott, "This stuff is beautiful, right?" And he said "Yeah, it is!" Go check out her site and blog right now!

These shirts are by Mociun. I really dug them. They reminded me of some of my favorite 1970's children's books. Imaginary in the best way. Can't find a link!

These are Creme's knit brooches. I was really feeling these. Hadn't seen them before. Made in Seattle. For me they might be the highlight of the fair. I dream of them.
